Family Fun

Bangkok is a hub of culture, cuisine, and activities that can be revelled in by everyone. Want some activities that you can enjoy as a family - or activities that can be thoroughly enjoyed for all ages without being picky? We’ve compiled a list of experiences to narrow it down:

Train Night Market

Want to go shopping in a local environment and stuff yourself full of great food? Try the Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest in the world. Find everything from local crafts, furniture, clothes, accessories, plants, pets and delicious food here. For a more “hip” market, head over to the Train Night Market (Srinakarin 51), an authentic open-air bazaar selling an incredible array of vintage collectables and knick-knacks from yesteryear. Antique furniture to modern apparel can be found in 3 different sections, and a dining area.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

In an even more authentic market experience, try Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Amphawa, an hour’s drive from Bangkok. There’s everything to take in from sights, sounds, smells, and stalls lined everywhere, selling everything from souvenirs to gastronomic street food. You can also hire a boat to paddle along if you want to be in the center of it all.

If you’re looking for a show: catch one of Siam Niramit’s legendary cultural performances. In the form of dance and musicals, it brings life to the story of Thailand. The extravagant stage design and stunning decorations, in addition to elephants, goats and a hundred artists in traditional clothing create an unreal vision sure to captivate.

Art in Paradise is sure to turn your museum visits on its head. Be hypnotized by optical illusions in their 3D painting-studded-walls. They look like they pop in real life, especially as they’re interactive where you can snap away and get lost in goofiest and most incredulous poses. From being eaten by a shark, standing in lava, being trapped in a box, to falling off a bridge - what a better way to take a family photo?

The scorching sun may be a little too much to handle, but no fret! Cool off at the lesser-known Fantasia Lagoon Water Park atop The Mall in Bangkae and Bangkapi shopping complex. The park is split into various sections, fit for all ages, from shallow pools to large sliders, and the favorite Lazy River. The queues aren’t long, and lockers and food are available.

Go back in time and take a day trip out to Ayutthaya, once the capital of Thailand. Visit the ancient town and temple ruins, and soak in the sites of thousands of red bricks in various forms. The park there has guided tours, and you can rent a bike to explore every little nook and cranny. It’s a to-go destination for historics, photographers, and kids can have fun playing around the vast area as well.
